LNER Saddles Up To Celebrate Chinese New Year 2026 - The Year of the Horse

LNER is proud to be continuing its partnership with London’s Chinese New Year celebrations for a second year in 2026 as the Year of the Horse is welcomed in.

The train operator’s very own lions have been entertaining customers and colleagues at London King’s Cross station in advance of this weekend’s parade and stage performances. The events are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the capital.

London's Chinese New Year parade takes place on Sunday 22nd February 2026 and is sponsored by LNER. The popular parade through Chinatown and Trafalgar Square is one of the standout moments of the 15-day Spring Festival, which kicked off earlier this week. The LNER lions are set to take part in the prestigious ‘dotting of the eye ceremony’, a rich tradition within the parade which symbolises the lions’ ‘awakening’.

David Flesher, Commercial Director at LNER, said: “At LNER, we are proud to welcome thousands of visitors from China onboard our services each year, allowing them the freedom to enjoy the very best experiences both on our trains, and in the many wonderful towns and cities along our route.  We connect visitors to some of the UK’s biggest destinations. From the iconic capital of London, and the historic Viking city of York, to the cathedral city of Durham, stunning Northumberland coastline – and the real‑life Hogwarts at Alnwick Castle, as well as the spectacular Scottish Highlands. It is an honour to once again be sponsoring and taking part in these special celebrations.”

Mr. Chu Ting Tang OBE, Chaiman at London Chinatown Chinese Association, said: “Chinese New Year is the highlight of our cultural calendar, and we are delighted to once again partner with LNER to bring the celebrations to life for both communities across London and visitors from further afield.  Their support helps us showcase the richness of Chinese heritage and will help make sure this year’s festivities are our most vibrant and welcoming yet.”
