Millions of LNER Customers Reap Benefit of More Choice, More Comfort, and More Great Value Fares
LNER has revealed that more than 3.7 million journeys were made in the first two months following the introduction of the biggest timetable changes on the East Coast Main Line in more than a decade.
Launched on 14 December 2025, the transformational new timetable delivers more frequent services, increased capacity on the most popular parts of the route, and more options for many customers.
With nearly 10,000 additional services per year and more than 60,000 extra seats every week across LNER, customers are feeling the benefits of greater choice and more of the cheapest Advance fares on offer, with prices starting from:
- London - Edinburgh - £41.40 (each way)
- London - Newcastle - £34.90 (each way)
- London - Leeds - £28.60 (each way)
- London - York - £28.80 (each way)
The timetable also delivers faster journey times between London and Edinburgh, cutting travel between the two capital cities to around 4 hours and 10 minutes.
A major enhancement includes the introduction of an extra hourly service between Newcastle and London, providing quicker journeys and more flexibility for customers. This improvement has helped drive a 28.8 per cent increase in journeys between the two cities compared with the same period last year.
Colette Casey, Customer Experience Director at LNER, said: “Seeing millions of people choosing to travel with LNER and take advantage of more frequent trains, more seats, faster journeys, and even better value fares is incredibly encouraging. Our new timetable is the result of extensive work across the industry, and it’s exciting to see the positive impact it is already having just a little over two months on.
“We’re committed to continuing to make rail the best option for journeys along the East Coast. As we head towards the Easter and summer periods, we have some really great prices on offer, and our teams look forward to welcoming even more customers onboard our services.”
