From Tracks to Train-ing: The LNER Host Inspiring Others to Stay Fighting Fit
From delivering first class service to fitness classes for firefighters, LNER Customer Experience Leader, Jackie Gordine, is fully onboard when it comes to health and wellbeing.
Jackie, who has worked at LNER for 11 years, combines her role of welcoming and hosting customers across the route with her passion for fitness. When she isn’t working on the East Coast Main Line, qualified gym and boxercise instructor Jackie teaches classes in her local community. It all started as part of her own journey to fitness after knee surgery.
Speaking about her experience, Jackie Gordine said: "I wanted to make sure I made the best possible recovery, and as part of that, I was then inspired to help others.
“Now I work with a number of groups across my local community in Sunderland. At the Fire Brigade boxing gym, I teach a female only class for women across all age groups, helping them to build strength and confidence through exercise. I also do some work for the charity Age UK. It is great to be able to help make a difference to people’s lives.”
Jackie, who is based out of Newcastle, trains alongside an Olympic weightlifter and has also competed in Strong Man competitions.
Commenting on Jackie’s passion for fitness, Olympic weightlifter and founder of Weights and Cakes Gym, Zoe Chandler, said: “Jackie’s commitment to her own fitness journey is only matched by her dedication to uplifting others. Jackie generously volunteers her time to support our over 55s classes and the Menopause strength project.
“She also leads inclusive boxercise sessions that create a sense of empowerment and belonging in our community. Her ability to create welcoming, supportive spaces for people of all ages and backgrounds is really inspiring, and we are honoured to have Jackie on our team.”
Jackie’s drive and commitment are also recognised by her colleagues.
David Keech, On Train Delivery Manager for LNER, said: “Jackie’s dedication to fitness reflects the passion she brings to work. Her presence brings an infectious energy onboard. Whether she’s welcoming our customers or offering advice to colleagues on meal planning, Jackie consistently goes above and beyond.”
