LNER Great North Run runners with CALM train 'You Belong'

LNER Colleagues Fundraise For CALM At This Year's Great North Run

More than twenty LNER colleagues are gearing up to take part in this weekend’s Great North Run in support of LNER charity partner CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

LNER Drivers, Train Managers, Customer Experience Hosts, station and office-based colleagues from across the route will join thousands of other participants in Newcastle-upon-Tyne this Sunday (13 September 2026) for the annual half-marathon. So far, they have raised several thousand pounds for CALM.

LNER has worked with CALM since October 2018, raising more than £780,000 towards their vital work around suicide prevention. The charity provides life-saving services and mental health support to anyone who needs it. A special LNER Azuma train named ‘You Belong’ serves the near-one-thousand-mile LNER route, raising awareness of the support CALM provides.

LNER will also be running additional trains to help customers arrive in Newcastle in time for the event.

Jake Orros, Community Partnerships Manager at LNER, said: “We are so proud of our colleagues taking part in the Great North Run. The team has been training hard for the past few months and have done a phenomenal job raising money for our brilliant charity partner CALM. We want to say a big thank you to everyone who has sponsored our team of runners so far, every donation makes a real positive impact on a cause close to our heart.”

Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM, said: “We can’t wait to cheer on all the CALM runners at the Great North Run this weekend, including the brilliant LNER team. Since 2018, our partnership with LNER has allowed CALM’s services to meet millions of people where they are, and this weekend the LNER team will again be going the extra mile to raise funds for our life-saving suicide prevention helpline and free mental health app, CALMzone. Fundraising  makes a huge difference in helping us make suicide prevention a normal, life-affirming part of daily life.”
