Travelling to the Capital this Weekend? LNER and EMR Help Customers Experience a Smooth Trip with Journey Video

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and East Midlands Railway (EMR) have released a new video, showing customers how easy and comfortable journeys to and from London can be using dedicated rail replacement services during weekend engineering work.

On Sunday 15, Saturday 21, and Sunday 22 February 2026, teams at Network Rail will be carrying out further work between Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin to introduce digital signalling on the East Coast Main Line, helping improve journey reliability and make the railway even safer for customers

The engineering work means that on the affected days there will be no direct LNER trains between London King’s Cross and Peterborough, resulting in very busy EMR services to and from London St Pancras, often with standing room only, and queuing systems in place.

A new video (embedded below) demonstrates the ease and comfort of dedicated, frequent rail replacement services, using accessible, clean and modern coaches, connecting customers between Peterborough and Bedford for onward train services to and from East Coast Main Line stations such as Leeds, York, Newcastle, or Edinburgh.

Customers who have purchased tickets for EMR or CrossCountry services via Sheffield or Nottingham on these dates can use LNER services. There is no need to change or buy new tickets.

Customers can keep up to date with the latest travel information by visiting LNER.co.uk, eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk, or via National Rail Enquiries.

For customers travelling south from ECML stations (inc Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, and Leeds), they should use LNER trains, which will terminate at Peterborough. From there, rail replacement coaches will operate to and from Bedford for onward connections with Thameslink to London St Pancras.

For those travelling north to East Coast Main Line stations, such as Leeds, York, Newcastle, or Edinburgh, customers should board Thameslink services to Bedford from the low level platforms at London St Pancras. From there, rail replacement coaches will operate to Peterborough for onward LNER connections.
