With thousands expected to travel by train this festive season, LNER and safeguarding partners have joined together to raise awareness of vulnerability on the railway and help protect at-risk children and young people. 

There are just days to go until the biggest uplift in rail services in more than a decade on the East Coast Main Line. On 14 December 2025 the new timetable will see LNER introduce nearly 10,000 new services per year and more than 60,000 extra seats across the route each week. 

LNER is embracing the spirit of the season onboard its trains, as it prepares to help take thousands of customers home for Christmas.

Preparations are well underway on trains, at stations, and behind the scenes on the East Coast Main Line (ECML), as LNER readies itself for a huge increase in the number of its services. 

LNER colleagues have completed an intensive safeguarding training day to help protect vulnerable customers during the festive travel period. 

As the East Coast Main Line prepares to see its biggest uplift in rail services in more than decade, unseen heroes of the railway are working harder than ever to make sure trains are clean, maintained, and ready to carry millions of customers each year.

Two LNER colleagues were part of a group of veterans from across the rail industry who took part in the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday (9 November 2025). This was the first time the rail industry has been officially represented at the event. 

The extraordinary bravery of the LNER colleague who was seriously injured in Saturday’s (1 November 2025) incident at Huntingdon station, has been recognised.
