LNER and Network Rail have announced the appointment of Gunnar Lindahl as Joint Operations Director – East Coast and LNER, a newly created role that marks a significant step forward in the integration of track and train across the East Coast route.

Ahead of this evening’s distinguished 2025 Mercury Prize ceremony on Tyneside (16 October 2025), LNER has welcomed guests and VIPs onboard a specially named service between London King’s Cross and Newcastle. It’s the first time the prestigious music awards have taken place outside London. Guests were greeted by the sound of seventy young singers from the Mini Mercury Choir as they arrived at Newcastle Central Station.  

LNER has been announced as sponsor of the world premiere of a new music composition celebrating 200 years of the modern railway called ‘Engine Shed’.

The railway family came together last night (Thursday 2 October) for a special celebratory Evensong at Durham Cathedral.
