An LNER engineer who has dedicated 47 years to keeping rail customers moving has packed away his tools for the last time ahead of retirement.

LNER will operate special trains away from its usual route to support customers during planned engineering work next month.

LNER has been granted Gold Award status in the 2026 Defence Employee Recognition Scheme for its continued support of armed forces personnel and their families.

To mark the 150^th anniversary of the birth of Sir Nigel Gresley, former Chief Mechanical Engineer of the original LNER, a special Azuma train livery has been unveiled at Doncaster railway station.

LNER has become the first UK train operator to introduce the ‘Ask for Angela’ safeguarding scheme across its trains and managed stations. The launch comes in Rail Safety Week, an industry wide initiative which focuses on rail safety for all.

LNER is inviting the public to a special Evensong service at Doncaster Minster to celebrate the life and work of famous railway engineer, Sir Nigel Gresley, ahead of the 150^th anniversary of his birth.

LNER has revealed further details of its special service to mark the start of Harry Styles’ UK concerts. Named the ‘Together, Together’ Train, it aims to treat people with kindness by raising funds for numerous charities across the LNER route. The train will depart Edinburgh Waverley at 08:30, bound for London King’s Cross on Friday 12 June 2026. 

Overnight Wednesday night into Thursday morning (4 June 2026), an LNER Azuma train was carrying out further, important viability tests on the Midland Main Line, away from its usual route.
